darkness personified in deceitful existence
it swung a lethal weapon and its name was despair
despair rang blows upon its helpless hopeless victims
bloodied and cowered they turned to their abuser
it stung them with barbs of shame and guilt
giving them false names and odious identities
enslaved and shackled in mist and bog
lost convinced defeated resigned
light divine and mercy incarnate stepped in
he with tearful eye and overflowing heart
reached and enveloped the broken
whispering hope promising life
pouring his blood and healing their wounds
fluttering eye and pain at the power of the light
an extended hand accepted and clasped
strength of will returned and purpose restored
doubt replaced with resolve
lies dispersed by truth
guilt washed away by love
despair obliterated by hope
